Alumna and history of Kahuhia Girls High School
The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) sponsored Kahuhia Girls High School located Off Muranga-Kangema Road was established in 1957 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) missionaries, under the leadership of Rev. Canon Harry Leakey.
The founder Rev. Canon Harry Leakey is reportedly father of famed archaeologist Louis Leakey.
Founded in 1902 as a college, the institution was fully changed into a girls’ secondary school in 1959.
Kahuhia School was set up primarily to promote literacy and Christian values among African girls in colonial Kenya.
It has since focused on both academic and domestic education, with subjects like English, Arithmetic, Bible study, needlework, and home science.
The school vision is to become “A centre of excellence that produces women of integrity.”
On the other hand, Kahuhia Girls school mission is “To maintain a leadership role in pursuit of high quality education in a friendly learning environment grounded on high moral values, social responsibility, personal development and self-discipline that produces women of high integrity and performance.”
