Alumna and history of Mukumu Girls
The prestigious Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High School located in Museno Sub location, Shinyalu Sub County, Kakamega County, was founded in 1959 by an enclosed religious order of women called the Ursuline Sisters.
The institution sitting about 8 kilometers from Kakamega town was established under the Catholic auspices to offer quality education to the underprivileged girls in the region.
In recent news, at least 240 students and one teacher were hospitalized in 2023 following a suspected food/water contamination which left three learners dead.
In response, the Ministry of Education appointed Sister Jane Mmbone as the new principal upon disbanding the board of management at the institution.
Previous administrators include Mrs. Fridah Ndolo.
The vision is โTo mold an all-round person who will fit in society.โ
On the other hand, the mission is โCommitment to academic excellence and character development.โ
Other remarkable secondary schools in the region include Kakamega Boys, Chavakali Boys, Bungoma High, Kapsabet High, and the embattled Butere Girls.
